Statement by the President in his Address to the Nation, 9/11/01

The following is the statement given by President George W. Bush on the evening of September 11, 2001...the day our country was attacked by Islamofascists in an attempt to destroy us.

Good evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong.

A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America -- with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington, D.C. to help with local rescue efforts.

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

The functions of our government continue without interruption. Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight, and will be open for business tomorrow. Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business, as well.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against terrorism. Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

Well, it appears that America's "Crazy Aunt" that we would prefer to keep down in the basement and out of the public's view has decided to call it quits...and this is none other than Cindy Sheehan. This life long leftist who decided to call herself the "Peace Mom" after her son Casey died a heroes death in Iraq is hanging up her protest signs after accusing the democrats of caving in to President George W. Bush.

In the "resignation letter" on her blog (which i will not post here because she doesn't deserve any more free press), she said, "Good-bye America ... you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can't make you be that country unless you want it." Perhaps if she is looking for the country she can love, she should try Venezuela where her socialist dictator buddy Hugo Chavez is firing rubber bullets and water cannons at those that he refuses to give the 1st Amendment rights that she has here in these Great United States of America.

I feel sorry for Cindy Sheehan in the loss of her son, that is a pain i hope i never have to experience myself...but if my child chooses to defend the freedoms of this great country, it is a sacrifice that i would have to make. But what i feel more sorry for is how she has allowed her hatred for President George W. Bush and our great country to drive her into these insane rants.

So, good bye Cindy...so long, farewell, and good riddance. And please, don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out!

Well, it just sounds like a good old time to me...a liberal love fest filled with more the typical blame America rhetoric and hatred of George W. Bush that we can expect from them!

Our legacy of God and liberty

Today we mark the 275th anniversary of the birth of our first President of these great United States of America, George Washington. He is truly a great American who should be remembered for being the definitive patriot, a founding father, and a hero who literally laid his life on the line so that we might become a free nation.

George Washington's impact was so great that his contemporary and eventual President of the US himself, John Adams said of him, "His example is now complete, it will teach wisdom and virtue to magistrates, citizens, and men, not only in the present age, but in future generations, as long as our history shall be read."

Our current President George W. Bush reminded us this past week, "George Washington's long struggle for freedom has also inspired generations of Americans to stand for freedom in their own time. Today, we're fighting a new war to defend our liberty and our way of life. And as we work to advance the cause of freedom around the world, we remember that the father of our country believed that the freedom we secured in our revolution was not meant for Americans alone."

As a student of history, when I look at the life, service, writings and convictions of President Washington I see a man whose commitment was to both God and liberty. When he saw the United States of America he truly saw the land of the free and the home of the brave…equally balanced upon the US Constitution and Bill of Rights and also on God's holy and inerrant word. Never could I have imagined George Washington envisioning this so-called "separation of church and state" that has been forced down our throats by the secular left and the politically correct bunch.

Take for instance this statement from Washington's first inaugural address April 30, 1789, "The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the republican model of government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people." He believed in a people governed by the people…not the elitist and special interests that are common in Washington today. It is a liberty based upon the common's man influence on his elected officials, not the dominance of the elected officials upon the electorate.

On September 19, 1796 Washington said in his Farewell Address, "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness – these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens." How far have we fallen in our society when leftist elitists like Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) calls Bible believe Christians who also have a right to have a say in our government affairs "theocrats" that he believes don't truly represent America.

This is the same America that was born and based upon Biblical principles Mr. Schumer, if you would care to go back and look at your 6th grade history book that has now been replaced by NEA revisions. In fact, you might even find this from President Washington's Farewell Address in it, "It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

God and liberty…the two of the greatest foundations that our great country was based upon are still necessary today. They were handed down from George Washington and the Founding Fathers from generation to generation; apparently until now. The last thing the secular elitist and left want is any mention of "God" in the public arena of ideas, and they are doing it in the name of "liberty"; how sad is that.

Today, i want to encourage you to stop for a moment and remember George Washington: his legacy and your freedom. And then consider that God and liberty are the pillars upon which we stand as a nation. God bless the USA.
