She read the writing on the wall...

...and it said she had a snowball's chance of being re-elected as Governor of Louisiana.

Growing up in South Louisiana in the 80's meant one constant...Kathleen "Call Me Babineaux Only at Election Time" Blanco was holding some political office. She is a career politician who made an mediocre legislator at best and a horrible chief executive. Her 2003 election to the Governor's mansion in Louisiana was probably a fluke and the result of bad planning by the Bobby Jindal team, but her handling of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is what ultimately did her in.

Today i finally heard Madame Governor say something that made me smile, "After much thought and prayer i have decided that i will not seek re-election as your Governor." I guess she does have some common sense after all!

I really can't say i'm going to miss her, nor with the vast majority of residents in the state of Louisiana. Especially since Louisiana is the only state in the last 3 years to face a major hurricane...and still not be anywhere near recovery in a lot of areas. South Texas is back to normal after Rita, and the MS Gulf coast is rebuilding after Katrina. Heck, even Alabama and Florida are in pretty decent shape after a plethora of hits over the last few years. But as for Louisiana...Kathleen's leadership has gotten us no where.

BTW...what is one thing that TX, MS, AL and FL have in common? Republican governors! And what is Blanco? Oh yeah, a Democrat!

She even went as for as saying, "I believe that it is best for my state." Once again, she actually was right. The best thing would have been for her to step down after Hurricane Katrina though.

The good news is Bobby Jindal apparently has thrown his hat back into the ring after doing a tremendous job of representing Louisiana's 1st district and was the one state leader who was more interested in getting dirty and cleaning up after Katrina, rather than doing press conferences. And my recommendation for the 2007 Governor's election in the great state of Louisiana is Rep. Bobby Jindal.

As for Kathleen Blanco...good riddance, and don't let the door hit you on the way out!
